australian tours - the dreamtime trail

Home Home
You will learn about Australia from some of its leading and most gifted communicators as well as from its friendly people.

Join us on The Dreamtime Trail through Australia's vast Outback, Great Barrier Reef, rain forests, and Aboriginal people for whom this huge country has been home for 60,000 years.

Australia is a small, modern nation lodged in a vast and ancient land the size of Europe.

We have titled this programme
The Dreamtime Trail
to capture the spirit of this land of wonderful Aboriginal art and legend, enormous distances, World Heritage sites of coral reefs and ancient rain forests, Flying Doctors, vast and lonely outback ranches – and some of the strangest wildlife on the planet.

We will ride overnight (in some style!) through the Outback on the famous and fascinating Ghan train between Adelaide and Alice Springs. You will learn about Australia from some of its leading and most gifted communicators as well as from its friendly people.

Among the highlights are:

Sydney - because it is a really beautiful, enjoyable and manageable city on the water, famous for its Opera House and Harbour Bridge, and the Blue Mountains nearby.

Melbourne - very different, with spectacular coastlines, the birthplace of Australian art and literature, wonderful Victorian architecture. Nearby Ballarat, scene of the 19 th century gold boom and the famous Eureka Stockade battle – is a fascinating journey back in history.

Alice Springs - home to the Flying Doctor service and the extraordinary School of the Air; the superb Desert Museum, and a centre of Aboriginal art and culture.

Uluru - sacred to the Aboriginal people, and known to us as Ayers Rock, glows red in the sunset.

Tropical North Queensland - riotous vegetation and birds, ancient rain forests and a cable car ride through the forest canopy. We’ll spend time on the Great Barrier Reef with expert marine biologists, and explore the longest lava tubes in the world in the fascinating Undara National Park.

We plan an optional pre-tour visit to Tasmania with its fascinating and cruel history of convict settlement. It is one of the few temperate wildernesses in the southern hemisphere with some of the world’s oldest trees set in beautiful surroundings.
